Treaty 4 Filipina artist Kris Alvarez enjoys a big laugh and a good cry. She makes art like an 80’s mom makes a trip to the beach: in a two-toned station wagon, blaring her favorite mixtape, picking up friends along the way. No seatbelts, no ETA. Good company, great snacks, lovely scenery.
Kris is lucky to work in Saskatchewan as a creator (Banana Musik, Burnt Sienna Blvd, Golden Potluck), Artistic Associate (Curtain Razors), playwright (Sum Theatre 2024), collaborator (Homebuddies, Prague Quadrennial 2023), performer (Bad Blood, Carmen Angel – Joey Tremblay / Reasonable Doubt, Bright Half Life – Persephone Theatre / Peter Pan, Steel Magnolias, Christmas Carol – Globe Theatre).
Kris wants to help make art from here until “she’s too old to do that”. She couldn’t do that without family (Mom, Dad, Joe, Eric, Zoë & Iris) and community (Fadadance, Artesian, AKA, Sum Theatre, Common Weal, Dunlop, So.Glad Arts, Kyuubi Culture, YWCA, Mann Art Gallery).
