John is an award-winning Ottawa-based set designer. After an acting career that brought him to all corners of the country, he slowly transitioned to set design. Lately, he’s worked for Surreal So Real (Roi Lear – Montreal), Théâtre Français de Toronto (Le Malentendu – Toronto), and for Satellite Théâtre (La Machine à cons – Moncton). Last season, he won the Betty Mitchell Award for the set of Awoowaakii (Theatre Calgary), and also received 3 nominations for the Prix Rideaux Awards. Upcoming: he is working on 4 installations for Voyageurs Immobiles and TRÉ in Ottawa, as well as a 6-company coproduction of a trilogy by Governor General Award-winning Mishka Lavigne. This production is John’s debut at the Globe.  

John is also an associate artist at Théâtre Rouge Écarlate, and teaches set design at the University of Ottawa. He is a graduate of their program as well as Studio 58, in Vancouver. Website: http://www.johnddoucet.com.
