Evan Watts Smith is a versatile musician and music director with over 15 years of professional experience. He served as resident music director for the Stephenville Theatre Festival from 2008–2013 and has since become one of Newfoundland’s most sought-after music directors. Selected music direction credits include Mamma Mia and Once(Theatre St. John’s), Be More Chill (Best Kind Productions), We Will Rock You and Kinky Boots (TADA Productions), and Come From Away (You Are Here), returning to Gander, NL this summer for the third season.  

As a performer, Evan has toured his original production Pianomen: The Music of Elton John and Billy Joel extensively across Newfoundland and has performed the show with both the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre Symphonique de Sherbrooke in Quebec. An experienced educator, he has served as a vocal coach with Sheridan College’s Musical Theatre Program and the Memorial University School of Music. In November of 2025, Evan was awarded MusicNL’s Rising Star of the Year for his debut original album, Turn On the Dark.
