Cafe Daughter

PJ Prudat,  born in Treaty 6 Territory, is a proud Métis (roots to Red River)~nehiyaw-saulteaux actor, arts educator and writer. A daughter of the fur trade, her maternal ancestors travelled by dog team, were Buffalo hunters, Métis Résistance, and Treaty Six Hereditary-Chief signatorie. PJ is currently pursuing her MFA in Creative Writing at UBC. She has worked in Indigenous Theatre for over twenty years and toured luminous IBPOC creative-led shows.  She holds Artistic Residencies with Nightswimming and the Theatre Centre.  PJ is among the first ever Indigenous women to hold space as a company actor at the National Arts Centre (English and Indigenous Theatres) and the Shaw Festival.  This is PJ’s fourth production of Café Daughter, and it is a joy and honour to make her directorial debut with this outstanding team, sharing this remarkable story at home in Treaty 4 Territory.  Kitatamihinâwâw.  

Mary-Rose is a Syilx/Siksika woman, actor, dancer, model, puppeteer, and visual artist. Her Syilx name is skʷkʷw̓iɬp (wild rose.) Her Siksika name is PIIHKAKATOSAKII (far away star woman.) During a painting degree at Emily Carr she landed a role in a tv series filmed in Budapest, Hungary.  Upon her return she auditioned for acting schools. She got accepted into Studio 58 with no theatre experience. Mary-Rose graduated from Studio 58 in spring of 2022. She made her professional debut in Calgary, Alberta with Making Treaty 7 in their original production O’KOSI in fall of 2022 and was brought back in 2023 to reprise her role. Mary-Rose's intention is to represent indigenous peoples and our stories with integrity and imagination.

Kenneth T. Williams’ professional path is a “guidance counselor’s nightmare.” He’s been a soldier, rock musician, journalist, First Nations land claims researcher, and door-to-door encyclopedia salesman. As a journalist, he was a member of the very first news team for the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network. He is a member of the George Gordon First Nation in the Treaty 4 territory. He’s the first Indigenous person to earn an MFA in Playwriting and become a full time instructor at the University of Alberta’s Department of Drama.

His plays, The Herd, In Care, Café Daughter, Gordon Winter, Thunderstick, Bannock Republic, Suicide Notes and Three Little Birds have been produced across Canada. He also co-wrote Gabriel Dumont’s Wild West Show. As a dramaturg, he has helped many playwrights at all levels develop their plays. 

He lives in Edmonton with his partner, Dr. Melissa Stoops, with their cats, Augustus and Drusilla.

Dylan Tate-Howarth is a theatre artist based in Toronto. She works as a stage manager primarily for new and/or devised theatre. Selected Stage Management credits include Two Birds One Stone (Two Birds Theatre); Italian Mime Suicide, and Flashing Lights (Bad New Days); Broken Shapes (The Theatre Centre); White Girls in Moccasins (manidoons collective and Buddies in Bad Times); and Assistant Stage Management for Niizh (Native Earth Performing Arts). Dylan is a co-creator of Probably Theatre Collective and co-curator of Probably Poetry.

Amanda Trapp (she/they) is a Cree and Saulteaux (member of White Bear First Nations)/settler actor & composer based in Saskatoon, SK. She’s thrilled to be returning to her hometown of Regina to bring the auditory world of Cafe Daughter to life.
