(Patterning, Draping, and Construction Lead)
Role Overview
The Costume Cutter works closely with the Costume Designer and Head of Wardrobe to translate designs into finished garments. They are responsible for draping, drafting, and cutting costumes, and for guiding the construction process in the workroom to ensure a high standard of fit, function, and finish suitable for performance in the round.

Key Responsibilities
- Liaise with the Costume Designer to interpret and execute designs
- Drape, draft, and develop patterns for costumes
- Determine yardage requirements and advise on fabric use
- Cut fabrics accurately and prepare builds for construction
- Direct the workroom on construction methods and garment assembly
- Construct garments as needed
- Attend fittings and adjust patterns or garments for fit and function
- Apply an understanding of actor movement to pattern making and fabric choice

Utilize technical construction techniques (“theatre magic”) to achieve design effects such as snaps, magnets, quick release threads, etc…
- Problem solve unique or complex design challenges
- Maintain a high level of quality control, with strong attention to detail and finish
- Build costumes that accommodate a wide range of body shapes and performance needs
Qualifications
- Strong skills in draping, pattern drafting, and garment construction
- Experience working from design concepts to finished garments
- Understanding of how movement and performance impact costume construction
- Knowledge of theatrical techniques and problem-solving approaches
- Excellent understanding of fit, proportion, and silhouette
- Ability to lead construction processes and communicate clearly with a team
