AUDITION NOTICE

Regina’s Globe Theatre requests submissions for

ARSENIC AND OLD LACE

The Brewster family home may look like a postcard from old Brooklyn—but behind the lace curtains and tea service lies a delightfully twisted secret. Spinster sisters Abby and Martha are serving up elderberry wine with a splash of poison, and their nephew Mortimer is about to find out just how far from “normal” his family really is. Add two long lost brothers and a wedding—and you’ve got a classic farce with a deliciously dark edge. A gothic-tinged comedy in the spirit of The Addams Family and Beetlejuice, this beloved screwball tale pairs death with deadpan, and madness with manners. 

Auditions will be held in:

• Regina on Wednesday, December 10^th, 2025
• Saskatoon on Friday, December 12^th, 2025
• Submission deadline: Monday, December 1^st by 4:00pm CST

Please note that if you are not available for live auditions, taped submissions may be considered only from artists who are currently based in Saskatchewan or who have roots in the province.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN 

Abby Brewster 

• Female identifying
• Age 50-70
• Sweet, doting, and eccentric aunt who, with her sister, poisons lonely old men as an act of “charity.”

Martha Brewster

• Female identifying
• Age 50-70
• Abby’s gentle and slightly more reserved sister; equally devoted to their murderous “good deeds.”

Mortimer Brewster

• Male identifying
• Age 20-30
• Witty theatre critic caught in family chaos; struggles to stay sane while protecting those he loves.

Elaine Harper

• Female identifying
• Age 20-30 
• Mortimer’s smart, spirited fiancée; daughter of a minister and not afraid to stand up for herself.

Teddy Brewster

• Male identifying
• Age 20-30
• Delusional brother who believes he’s Teddy Roosevelt; unknowingly aids in the sisters’ crimes.

Jonathan Brewster

• Male identifying
• Age 30-40
• Menacing, criminal brother with a surgically altered face; returns home with dark intentions.

Dr. Einstein

• Male identifying
• Age 30-60
• Nervous, alcoholic accomplice to Jonathan; comically conflicted and deeply afraid of him.  He has a German accent.

Reverend Harper / Lieutenant Rooney

• Male identifying
• Age 40-60
• Reverend Harper: Elaine’s well-meaning but oblivious father; a traditional and devoted minister, unaware of the Brewster family’s chaos.
• Lieutenant Rooney: Tough, skeptical police officer who begins to unravel the Brewsters’ strange behavior.

Officer Klein

• Male identifying
• Age 30-50
• An officer of the law who is likable but maybe not the brightest man on the force.  Some physicality required.

Officer Brophy / Mr. Gibbs

• Male identifying
• Age 30-60+
• Officer Brophy: Another officer of the law who is likable but also not the brightest man on the force.
• Mr. Gibbs: An unsuspecting man nearly killed by the Brewster sisters after answering a room-for-rent ad.

Officer O’Hara / Mr. Witherspoon

• Male identifying
• Age 30-60
• Officer O’Hara: Friendly, chatty cop with dreams of being a playwright; oblivious to the house’s secrets.
• Mr. Witherspoon: The no-nonsense superintendent of the local insane asylum; he’s practical but slightly baffled by the Brewster family’s eccentricities.
