Based on the best-selling novel by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit follows Bilbo Baggins, a quiet and contented Hobbit who rarely leaves the comforts of home. When a powerful Wizard and a band of unruly Dwarves show up on his doorstep, Bilbo’s world is turned upside down as they whisk him away on an epic adventure to reclaim their mountain home and the treasure within it.

Courtenay Dobbie | Director

Other Theatre: Courtenay has performed, directed, choreographed or created for many theatre companies in Canada such as Green Thumb Theatre, Theatre Melee (of which she is co-founder), Arts Club Theatre Company, Vancouver Playhouse, Belfry Theatre, Axis Theatre, Neworld Theatre, Bard on the Beach, Touchstone Theatre, Persephone Theatre, Carousel Theatre, Great Canadian Theatre Company, Magnetic North Theatre Festival, Electric Company Theatre, Studio 58, and UBC.

Other: Courtenay teaches acting at Studio 58 and is a graduate of the acting programs of Mount Royal College (Calgary) and Studio 58 (Vancouver). She has her M.F.A in Directing from the University of British Columbia.

John C. Dinning | Set Designer

Catherine Hahn | Costume and Puppet Designer

Globe Theatre: Debut

Other Theatre: Gracie (Belfry and Alberta Theatre Projects); Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (Alberta Theatre Projects); Whether the Weather (Theatre Columbus).

Other: Catherine is a member of A.D.C. and has designed sets, costumes, masks, and pageants for theatre, dance, film, television, multi-media, international expos, commercials and art galleries, for over 40 years. She has garnered several Dora, Jessie and Gemini nominations for her work. Her long association with the Caravan Farm Theatre helped develop and hone their celebrated populist spectacle style; outdoor theatre and events have become her stock in trade with companies across the continent and abroad. She is currently returning to her jeweller’s bench to produce a series of theatrical medals.

Louise Guinand | Lighting Designer

Globe Theatre: Twenty shows, including: Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, The Last Wife, Peter and the Starcatcher, The Drowning Girls, Peter Pan, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

Other Theatre: Louise has created lighting designs for over five hundred shows. Some recent credits include Julius Caesar, An Ideal Husband (Stratford Festival); Stage Kiss (Shaw Festival); Once (Citadel Theatre); The Monument (Factory Theatre).

Other: Louise is a graduate of Queen’s University and the National Theatre School and a recipient of the Dora Award for Aspects of Love.

Jeremy Sauer | Sound Designer and Composer
