Shumiatcher Sandbox Series
Created and performed by Johanna Bundon, Lee Henderson & Barbara Pallomina
Globe Theatre acknowledges Drs. Morris & Jacqui Shumiatcher for their generous donation, which enables the bold, imaginative traditions of the series to grow and develop.
The ephemerality of art finds fascinating new levels with this performative installation by visual artist Lee Henderson and contemporary dancers Johanna Bundon and Barbara Pallomina. The traditional line between audience and performer is blurred to the point of invisibility, with interactive electronics -- the predictable and yet ever so unpredictable third party -- occupying the dark.
Movement, text, light, and video; artists, audience, and artists/audience. All share a cavernous space where light is the exception rather than the rule, and your own movements affect the responsive environment in a way only those present in the moment will experience.
Born out of a sequence of photography/dance collaborations, WhyRobotsMakeBetterLovers brings lens-based and movement media together while pushing hard against each of their limits. Performers are more guides than entertainers. You, as the viewer, are creating the work, whether you intend it or not.
Bring your humanity to an environment in which hacked Wiimotes, unseen sensors, and occasionally seen dancers await your company. Learn WhyRobotsMakeBetterLovers.
