Globe Theatre Appoints Jennifer Brewin as Artistic Director

Globe Theatre has appointed Jennifer Brewin as the Artistic Director, following an extensive international search process led by a search committee of the board and Leadership Source.

Jennifer has had a long history in the Canadian theatre industry specializing in new works. She has both co-authored a number of collective creations as well as directed premiers of a vast array of new plays. Jennifer has been in leadership roles at the Caravan Farm Theatre, the National Arts Centre and most recently she has served as the Co-Artistic Director at the Common Boots Theatre in Toronto. She is currently in the second year of an MFA at the University of Calgary. The focus of her research investigates alternative forms of radio drama.

Jennifer is also the recipient of a Dora Mavor Moore Award, a Jessie Award, and The Armstrong Award of Excellence (with Estelle Shook).

Incoming Artistic Director Jennifer Brewin:

I am honoured to be invited to join the community that is Globe Theatre. My husband and I are more than a little excited to move to Regina, a beautiful city with a thriving and accomplished community of performing artists and engaged audiences. I am proud to be part of an organization that brings people together to bravely investigate how we behave as a society through drama, comedy and music.

In all my work, I am motivated to create opportunities that bring theatre artists and audiences together to experience the virtuosity of the Canadian imagination in all its complex diversity.

I want to pay tribute to Globe’s excellent leadership over the years: Ken Kramer, Susan Kramer, Susan Ferley, and the incomparable Ruth Smillie. Together, they’ve left a legacy that will fortify our capacity to navigate these extraordinary times; inspiring new work and unique partnerships among and between Indigenous and non-Indigenous performing artists in Saskatchewan. Globe will continue to produce excellent theatre that is popular, innovative and always engaging.

As I join the company, the world is experiencing a crisis. Theatre will have a new purpose when we emerge on the other side, and Globe Theatre will be called upon to play a leading role in bringing people together to acknowledge hardship, celebrate endurance, and build a better world. It will be a great honour to be part of that process.

Board Chair Kerry Lumbard:

On behalf of Globe Theatre’s Board of Directors, I am very pleased to welcome Jennifer Brewin as Artistic Director. Jennifer’s proven success in artistic leadership across the country will make her an outstanding addition to the Globe team.

I also extend sincere gratitude to the volunteer Artistic Director Search Committee as well as Leadership Source for their time and thoughtfulness through the search process.

Executive Director Jaime Boldt:

Jennifer is a multi-award-winning artist and a well-respected leader in Canadian theatre. Her depth of experience in creating theatre in unusual spaces and her thesis focus on alternative forms of radio drama is timely for Globe during the next few years. I am excited to welcome Jennifer and her husband Arthur to our community and the Globe family!
