Globe Theatre Announces its First Relaxed & Audio-Described Performance
Globe Theatre officially announces its first Relaxed and Audio-Described Performance during the performance of Disney's The Little Mermaid on Saturday, June 24 at 2 PM.
A Relaxed Performance is open to everyone, but the environment has been specifically adapted for individuals with autism, individuals with sensory and communication disorders, families with small children, and anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed environment.
The performance will be adapted in a variety of ways in order to reduce anxiety and ensure a safe and enjoyable live theatre experience.
A Relaxed Performance means a relaxed attitude to noise from the audience, the house lights in the theatre will remain on throughout the show to mitigate the shifts in the theatrical lighting cues, patrons are welcome to use sound blocking headphones if sound cues and applause are difficult to manage, and audience members are free to leave and re-enter the theatre at any point by taking the stairs up to the third floor. We will have additional staff on hand to assist with seating and access around the theatre. There will also be a Quiet Room, a space for audience members who need a bit of quiet time before, during, and after the performance.
The performance on June 24 will also feature live audio description for patrons with vision loss. During the show, important visual details and physical actions are described between the lines of dialogue. Only those wearing the audio description headsets can hear the description. It does not cause disruption to those not benefiting from the service.
Tickets for this performance go on sale on April 25. To find out more about this performance or to book tickets, please call our Box Office at (306)525-6400.
