Ruth Smillie Scholarship

The Ruth Smillie Scholarship Fund was created through a generous donation from the Rawlinson Family and offers funding to Globe Theatre School for participants who have financial barriers to participation. The scholarship will provide children with the opportunity to gain valuable life skills through an enriched arts education experience.

The Ruth Smillie Scholarship will assist in creating pathways for First Nations, Metis, and newcomer youth to attend Globe Theatre School programming.  Youth from our Educational Outreach program and other partnerships will be identified and given supports towards applying for scholarship funding and registering for classes.  In this way, this scholarship will assist in providing equity and diversity within Globe Theatre School Programming.

The application process for this program is as follows:

For students 12 years and under – Parents/guardians are asked to:

  • Write a short paragraph outlining why you want your child to attend Globe Theatre School, and what you hope they will learn.
  • Potentially meet with the theatre school coordinator for a brief interview.

For students 13 years and older – The student is asked to:

  • Write your own paragraph outlining why you want to attend Globe Theatre School and what you hope to learn.
  • Meet with the theatre school coordinator for a brief interview.

At Globe Theatre School, students leave their fears at the door and step into the bold and bright world of their own creative potential.

We encourage our youngest students to indulge in imaginative play and pretend. New artistic muscles grow and develop as they transition into our collective creation core programs, which are designed to build collaborative abilities and spark creative expression.

As their focus shifts to technical theatre and performance, our teen programming provides students with the necessary foundation to confidently write, act, and improvise in a positive group environment.

Teenagers are offered the opportunity to perform in professional settings and challenge themselves in new and exciting ways.
